WALT record what learning on our netbooks this year has been like, what we have enjoyed, what has been difficult, what has been interesting.
At the start of the year Room 6 was very lucky to get black, shiny, brand new netbooks! I felt very excited.
I have really liked what I have learned from my netbook. You can create your own google docs presentation. You can research new things on internet. We get to have our own blog, to share with the world.
Some small problems with our netbooks have been when the battery is low or when your internet connection doesn't work while you are doing your work.
It has been really interesting this term for us because it has changed they way we learn. We have done lots of things on our netbooks like learning about our energy topic, and doing projects and learning what makes electricity move.
It has been exciting using our netbooks this year for our learning!
This blog is a record of Lavinia’s learning from Tamaki Primary School through to Tamaki College.

Hydro-Power Explanation
WALT write an explanation of how a Hydropower station works
.
A hydro dam is an amazing structure that makes electricity from water!
Firstly you build a dam to block the river.Water then builds up the dam. This is called they reservoir.
It then goes through the intake then goes through penstock.
Then this this makes electricity, which is stored in the generator.
The water goes to the turbine and it spins very fast.
Then it makes electricity which is stored in the generator.
The electricity then travels through the power lines to houses and cities.
Hydropower is great because it is renewable.

Natural gas diagram
WAL about different power sources (where we get power from), and whether they are renewable or non-renewable:
Renewable (will not run out) energy source:
Solar(sun)
Wind
Water
Biomass
Non-renewable (will run out) energy source:
Oil(petroleum)
Coal
Natural gas
This is how natural gas is used to generate (make) power:

Fractions
In Maths this term we have been learning about FRACTIONS
I can find fractions of whole numbers like:
½ of 12 =6 ⅓ of 9= 3 1/10 of 20=2
⅔ of 12= 8 ⅘ of 10= 8
I can recognise when a fraction is greater than 1:
½ + ½ + ½ =1 1/2
⅓ + ⅓ + ⅓ + ⅓ =1 1/3
7/4 =1 3/4
I can find fractions of whole numbers like:
½ of 12 =6 ⅓ of 9= 3 1/10 of 20=2

Photosynthesis
WAL about how plants grow and what they need to grow
My explanation of how Photosynthesis works:
Photosynthesis works by giving the plant carbon dioxide that enters the leaves through stomata that are tiny little holes. Then it needs water. The sunlight turns these into sugar which makes the plant grow.

Mothers Day
During the weekend on Sunday it was Mothers Day. For mothers day I gave my mum a card, pancakes and tea. I gave my mum a great big hug and we all said "happy great mothers day".Then we sat down as a big generation and surprised her with all our gifts. That day was the best mothers day of all.
